I just spent approximately 7 minutes trying to remember which exact Google search terms led me to 2941 Restaurant in Falls Church, VA. Since I'm blanking, I'll note in the interim that The Daily Meal named 2941 as one "America's 10 Most Romantic Restaurants" and Only in Your State named it one of "The 10 Most Beautiful Restaurants in All of Washington, D.C."
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
2941 Restaurant reminded me of some of my favorite house museums. The attention to landscaping detail and the almost atrium-like ambiance of the windowed entryway set a blissful tone. Add to the aesthetic (can you guess what generational group I'm a part of?) the savory flavors of the dishes themselves and the end result is a recipe for success.
My cocktail of choice was Party Thyme, because, belated birthday celebration.
The cocktail was a perfect prelude to a five course tasting menu, crafted by Executive Chef, Bertrand Chemel:
Course 1: Mushroom Velouté (shaved black truffle, mascarpone foam)
Course 2: Grilled Turbot (yuzu beurre blanc, cucumber, caviar)
Course 3: Oeuf Meurette (red wine poached egg, pearl onion, bacon, frisée salad
Course 4: Squab Duo (farro risotto, roasted breast, crispy leg, wild mushroom, foie gras jus)
Course 5: Citrus Trio (yuzu ice cream, lemon cake, orange crémeux
Personalized menus, writing on the plate, staged photos of me pretending to blow out a candle for 4 minutes while my parents and brother take pictures of me. Well-rounded end to a well-rounded meal.
Good news: Metropolitan Washington Restaurant Week 2018 runs now through January 27, 2018.
I'd also consider this a good February 14th spot, whether you're making plans with your love, or your squad, or both.
Happy tasting, friends.
